New Project added to Site.
Construction has begun on a new BC Hydro office within the Quinsam Crossing development in Campbell River. The $23 million project will create and sustain about 60 jobs during the 16-month construction period.
The new 28,000 square foot building boasts sustainable building design. The exterior of the new building will be a hybrid of steel and wood.
BC Hydro undertook two comprehensive studies of the 40-year old Evergreen Road building and came up with significant issues. Just some of the concerns included not being seismically sound because of soil liquefaction, there is no fire suppression system, the air quality in the vehicle bays is not sufficient, and the building is now too small from operational growth over the last few decades. A number of options were considered with the best one being the move to a new location.
The general contractor site preparation and safety fencing contracts have been awarded but that leaves almost 20 contracts still to be awarded. For details of the project including pre-qualification requirements go to the project page.
